Download the APP of “Discipline”

Over the past few years with the increase and growth of technology, especially smart phones, we have been given the ability to play games, catch sport scores, count calories, pay bills, update social media and a plethora of other things at the palm of our hands. Everything has been made easier through the use of Applications aka APPs. This year my Pastor, Bishop Keith L. Clark (BKLC), has decided that we will begin to do some WORK spiritually and psychologically to make our lives better by Downloading APPs every week throughout the 2015 year.

APPs = Applying Positive Practices

Apply the Positive Practice of DISCIPLINE this week in Spending and Speaking.”

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
(Romans 12:2)
DISCIPLINE is the “ability to say No when you want to say Yes” (BKLC)

Dr. Rosché says:
Spending:
When it comes to having discipline around our spending, we must first begin to have an understanding of what’s motivating our desire to spend.  Is the money burning a hole in my pocket? Am I feeling sad and need some retail therapy? I don’t know how to mange my money so why try?   So many people are dying so why plan for the future, live life for today because You Only Live Once (YOLO)?  All of these issues are valid and common experiences of a poor spender.  However, how long do you want to be without money or have a life of struggle for yourself and your family?  It’s important to develop impulse control aka Discipline.  If the money is burning a hole in your pocket or you are in a bad mood today, begin to think and dream about your future.  Is spending this money today going to prevent my ability to get my needs met for tomorrow?
Speaking:
Remember the common saying that “Sticks and Stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.”  This statement is the furthest thing away from the truth.  Words Hurt!! There are people who attempt suicide due to words. Children grow up as adults with low self-esteem because of words.  Family relationships, friendships, and romantic relationships are damaged because of words.  Reputations and fights are started in social media because of words.  Words can produce internal scars that are carried with us for a lifetime and can take multiple positive words to overcome them.

According to Bishop Keith Clark, Don’t let your Words
Distract: prevent others from focusing on the positive
Discourage: take Courage from someone’s dreams
Destroy: make it difficult for someone to go on
Before I say it, did God OK it? Remember that everything that pops in your mind doesn’t have to be said out loud (BKLC).   Be mindful of what you are thinking (or what’s in your heart) to prevent what comes out of your mouth (Check out Proverbs 4:23).
When you are in conversation or potential argument, take the time to think what is your goal in this interaction.
    • In a conflict: Do you just want to Yell or do you want the person to Understand and Change?  Please Understand that effective communication has less to do with how You want to say the information but more about how the Other person understands information.
    • Stay committed to being mindful of how you affect others.  Whether that’s in a positive way or negative way, encouraging or discouraging way
I know it’s WORK and it’s easier to continue to do the same thing over and over again because you and Drama have become such close friends over the years, but break yourself from this friend and introduce yourself to some new friends named Peace, Hope, and Success. Nobody said it would be easy, but God hasn’t brought you this far to LEAVE you. Remember to ask for HIS Guidance in beginning this process. I am here for you too and I’m willing to answer any questions you may have about what hinders your ability to make progress in this area.

If you missed it on KMEL,
Dr. Rosché summarizes and furthers the discussion…  Check It Out!!!

Over the past few years in the increase and growth of technology, especially smartphones, we have been given the ability to play games, catch sport scores, count calories, pay bills, update social media and a plethora of other things at the palm of our hands.  Everything has been made easy to us through the use of Applications aka APPs. APPs = Applying Positive Practices

“Apply the Positive Practice of FAITHFULNESS this week.”

Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.
Revelation 2:10

FAITHFULNESS happens “Doing What is Right in every situation or season”
~Bishop Keith L. Clark (BKLC)

Dr. Rosché says: in order to successfully be faithful or do what’s right in every situation it’s important to understand your decision making process.  Dr. Marsha Linehan discusses how one’s logical mind, emotional mind come together to create wise mind

We all make decisions based on our perspective of the world, people, and ourselves.  This perspective is shaped by our environment, experiences, and interactions.  This means that we are limited in our knowledge of how to do what’s right in every situation especially when it’s a new situation that we have never been exposed to before.

In order to be Faithful you must…

Know What to Do in every situation. In a life full of so much to do we can often end up on autopilot, which means Doing without Thinking.  Therefore, it’s most important for us to take a Moment to think about a situation in order for us respond instead of react to situations.  So what do we do in this moment?  We consult, consult, and consult some more.  We ask God, our pastor, our friend, trusted confidant, our therapist, or a book what should I do in this situation?  Help me to weigh out the pros and cons or benefits and consequences to my decisions.

Remember when you do what’s Right you’ll have no Regrets:  It requires a level of Maturity to begin to do what’s right in every situation.  In my work with adolescence or even younger children, they often say “I don’t feel like going to school, doing my homework, cleaning my room, being nice to him/her, etc…”  This makes sense for children but now you are an adult and still reacting off of feelings instead of facts.  Time to ask yourself… Do I need to Mature in this situation?  Do I need to trust God and do what’s right even if it is going to give me temporary emotional pain?  Remember: You can never go wrong if you are in the Will of God.  In the Words of Karen Clark Sheard “the safest place in the whole wide world, is in the WILL of God.”

Right eventually always Wins: When you make the choice to do what’s right you may experience temporary loss but long-term gain.  It can be hard to start making the right choice after you have made so many wrong choices.  You may find that you may loose some people in your life that you thought were very important to you, but Remember “when God shuts one door, He opens another.” Trust Him.

I know it’s WORK and it’s easier to continue to do the same thing over and over again because you and Drama have become such close friends over the years, but break yourself from this friend and introduce yourself to some new friends named Peace, Hope, and Success.  Nobody say it would be easy, but God hasn’t brought you this far to LEAVE you. “Download the App of BALANCE”

If you missed it on KMEL,
Dr. Rosché summarizes and furthers the discussion…  Check It Out!!!

APPs = Applying Positive Practices

This week we encourage everyone to “Download the App of BALANCE.”

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens
                                                                    Ecclesiastes 3:1

BALANCE happens “when everything in your life gets the needed attention.” (BKLC)

Dr. Rosché says: there are so many facets necessary for us all to have a successful life (Spiritual, Psychological, Mental, Emotional, Physical, Social, Work, Family, etc…) and at certain times in our lives one or more can become overwhelming, making it hard to juggle them all.  If we focus too much on one area, we inadvertently neglect other important areas.  All areas are intertwined and necessary for our overall well-being.  If we spend too much time on building a career, there is no time to build up our family.  If we spend too much time focusing on our social life (friends and romances) we may neglect our desire to reach important career and spiritual goals.  And we all know how physical goals can be put to the waist side when we are overworked, stressed emotionally about break ups, parenting, finances, etc...  So the question is What Do We Do?

First, it is important to start with some self-care and take a simple break to begin your process of change.

1.      Make a LIST of all of the important areas in your life.  Think about what is truly a NEED.  A NEED is something that is Necessary for your Empowerment Enrichment and Development (BKLC).  Do I need this person in my life even though they bring me emotional turmoil?  Do I need to make more money even if that means less time with my kids?  Do I need to “kick it” even if that means miss hearing God’s Word that can change my life spiritually?

2.      Separate: prioritize what and who are important in your life and how much time and energy must be spent to nurture these areas.  How can I set better boundaries with others and things that take too much energy? Saying “No” is necessary self-care even if it is to family members.  Think about Agape Love and if you are doing what’s Best for them by always saving the day during a crisis (BKLC).  Remember: Poor planning on your part should not equal emergency on my part.  People need space to grow and if you are always there, they will never have the opportunity to know what they can do for themselves in a given situation.

3.     Schedule: When and How should I plan to pay attention to all necessary areas of my life.  In this area, you must be flexible with yourself as there will always be something that pops up that was not on your schedule.  Remember:  If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.  If you don’t have an initial goal it will only bring about more difficulty, chaos, drama, and stress within your life.   Having a schedule will only require minor adjustments compared to devising an impulsive action plan when and if something unpredictable happens.
