Download the APP of “Discipline”
Over the
past few years with the increase and growth of technology, especially smart
phones, we have been given the ability to play games, catch sport scores, count
calories, pay bills, update social media and a plethora of other things at the
palm of our hands. Everything has been made easier through the use of
Applications aka APPs. This year my Pastor, Bishop Keith L. Clark (BKLC), has
decided that we will begin to do some WORK spiritually and psychologically to
make our lives better by Downloading APPs every week throughout the 2015
year.
APPs = Applying Positive
Practices
“Apply
the Positive Practice of DISCIPLINE this week in Spending and Speaking.”
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye
transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good,
and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
(Romans 12:2)

DISCIPLINE
is the “ability to say No when you want to say Yes” (BKLC)
Dr. Rosché says:
Spending:
When
it comes to having discipline around our spending, we must first begin to have
an understanding of what’s motivating
our desire to spend. Is
the money burning a hole in my pocket? Am I feeling sad and need some retail
therapy? I don’t know how to mange my money so why try? So
many people are dying so why plan for the future, live life for today because
You Only Live Once (YOLO)? All
of these issues are valid and common experiences of a poor spender. However, how long do you want to be without
money or have a life of struggle for yourself and your family? It’s important to develop impulse control aka
Discipline. If the money is burning a hole in your pocket or you are in
a bad mood today, begin to think and dream about your future. Is spending this money today going to prevent my
ability to get my needs met for tomorrow?
Speaking:
Remember
the common saying that “Sticks and Stones may break my bones but words will never
hurt me.” This statement is the furthest
thing away from the truth. Words Hurt!! There
are people who attempt suicide due to words.
Children grow up as adults with low self-esteem because of words. Family relationships, friendships, and romantic relationships are damaged because of words. Reputations
and fights are started in social media because of words. Words can produce
internal scars that are carried with us for a lifetime and can take multiple positive words to overcome them.
According to Bishop Keith Clark, Don’t let your Words…
According to Bishop Keith Clark, Don’t let your Words…
Distract: prevent others from focusing on the positive
Discourage: take Courage from someone’s dreams
Destroy: make it difficult for someone to go on
Before I say it, did God OK it? Remember
that everything that pops in your mind doesn’t have to be said out loud (BKLC). Be
mindful of what you are thinking (or what’s in your heart) to prevent what
comes out of your mouth (Check out Proverbs 4:23).
When you are in conversation or
potential argument, take the time to think what is your goal in this
interaction.
- In a conflict: Do you just want to Yell or do you want the
person to Understand and Change?
Please Understand that effective communication has less to do with how You want to say the information
but more about how the Other person understands
information.
- Stay committed to being mindful of how you affect
others. Whether that’s in a positive
way or negative way, encouraging or discouraging way
I know it’s WORK
and it’s easier to continue to do the same thing over and over again because
you and Drama have become such close friends over the years, but
break yourself from this friend and introduce yourself to some new friends
named Peace, Hope, and Success. Nobody said it would be easy, but
God hasn’t brought you this far to LEAVE you. Remember to ask for
HIS Guidance in beginning this process. I am here for you too and
I’m willing to answer any questions you may have about what hinders your
ability to make progress in this area.
